David is in conflict and he is running from his son Absalom. In this Psalm, David talks about his enemies, about their offense to God and His Word, their lies, their deceit, their rejection. He brings us into the distress that he is facing, as God’s enemies are pushing against his leadership. This morning we are continuing in this series in Psalms as we search. Search for peace last week, searching for justice this week. Complete and perfect justice is coming. God promises as much.

How would you define peace? Maybe you believe peace is the absence of conflict or the removal of hindrances to your personal happiness. Maybe you think peace is when you don’t fight with your spouse. Peace is when my kids listen to me. Peace is when I am appreciated by my boss and co-workers. Peace is when I am happy with myself. Peace is when I am financially secure. Peace is when everyone doesn’t hate me any longer.
The Psalms are the songbook, the prayer book for the Christian life. The Psalms are where we learn about God and how to experience Him in all of our lives. This psalm is a lament of David and I believe there is something for you to learn about grief, about pain, about peace if you’ll listen.

James continues to teach us the importance of the tongue, in regards to how we speak with one another and when we speak to God. He challenges us to consider the truthfulness of our words when it comes to our Yes or our No. Are we known as people who follow through with our commitments? He then moves on to challenge us in our prayer life. How often do we run to God in prayer when we are suffering and how often do we praise God when He answers? What role does faith play in our prayers? We will look together at God’s Word to learn how prayer should affect our lives as Christians.
